From: "MPCgram" To: Subject: MPCGram 1094 Date: Saturday, January 31, 2004 5:37 PM ============================================= MPC GRAM ============================================= Covering the entire World of Military Numismatics Series 005 - Number 1094 Saturday January 31, 2004 Fest Auction By Profski (Larry Smulczenski) Gramsters--We are less than six weeks away Fest V and Auction submissions are running behind what we have seen for the last two years. We have some great items that have been donated but realize that the auction is not just for donated items. We will be happy to accept your better duplicates, auction them off and mail you the proceeds for a simple 10 per cent fee. But I need to have your submissions in the next two weeks. I don't need the items mailed to me if that will help you. Just send me an email with a description of the item and the minimum amount you want for them. Email that information to me at skifla@prodogy.net and then you can give the items to me at CPMX or Fest. My intent is to have a list of the lots on the web prior to my departure for CPMX. I do want to thank those that have already so generously responded with donations that go to the scholarship fund. ============================================= Editorial/opinion ============================================= My February Bank Note Reporter finally arrived. It is the third annual MPC issue and it is wonderful! I went through it quickly, but it will take quite a while to digest all of the military numismatics in this issue. Hopefully someone will write a review of this issue, but if not, I will probably do it. In spite of being so wonderful, there are a few ways that we can improve for next year. There are regular features in the paper that can and should feature military numismatics and could with just a little more coordination. Webmaster Doug Bell reports that he has found a computer technique that might solve some Gram delivery problems. It is possible that some of you might receive this Gram after a long interlude without Grams. If this has happened to you, please tell us about it. ============================================= MAIL CALL ============================================= Dear Gram, okokok...here's my reservation payment! Now, about including German bonds and Czech lottery tickets in WW2R... Wendell Hey, I love it. We have gone thru Fred Fest, Next Fest, Tri- Festa, Fore Fest and now Al has come up with Cinco de Festo. That is a super title. Some of us have tried to come up with something catchy, but nothing more original than Nickel Fest has come up. But Cinco de Festo is wonderful. Great job, Al much better than numbering CU notes. ---Ski Hello Gram, I just wanted to mention that the article on MPC Multi-Printing Replacements, that our Steamed Editor wrote for the latest issue of Banknote Reporter (February 2004) , Is very well written and has a lot of information , Fred has done an outstanding job. Several other gramsters/festers have also contributed numerous articles for this Issue also. There is an article about the Planchette Report too. Also information about the Fest .Our own David Seelye has and extensive listing of his items for sale . David Klinger has a very interesting article on the Dam on Series 692.Neil Shafer has very timely articles also. I have not finished reading all of this issue yet but the ones I have looked at so far are very Informative. Sam Feeback editor- would appreciate it if you could post these responses in the mail section- feel free to delete the items marked "sold" in the mpc listing. to al glaser- those fed reserves were probably mine- not one group sold even though i had asked face value on some. the 521 5.00 was mine- but a large number of my mpc sold at less than my cost, which was a lot less than book value. and, a lot of my mpc did not sell at all, despite being reserved at less than book value and at less than my cost. to guy!- thanks for the comments about the grading- most of it was low by up to two grades, and several mpcs were listed as being pressed or as having folds when they were not/did not. i just hope that when i get the unsold lots back, i'm not going to find out that what left me as gems are now lower in grade... maybe the grader at the auctioneer's was just inexperienced. (a number of lots had other mistakes listed- wrong dates, wrong provenance, etc.). i do wish you and whoever else was bidding on the mpc had just bought from me directly through the listing in the gram- you would have saved money, and i would have gotten more. but that is just the way it goes sometimes. a list of what i have left is below (along with the sold items), so if anyone wants to make an offer, let me know at mdades@pacbell.net. thanks, marianne ades Dear Marianne and readers, The list of items is in the for sale section below Editor ============================================= CALENDAR OF EVENTS ============================================= 2004 CPMX February 26-28, Lyn Knight auction.
