======================================================= MPC Gram ====================================================== Vol 1 Number 59 July 7, 2000 News and Views This gram was created yesterday. I thought that it was sent yesterday too but everyone jumped me at chat about a missing gram and investigation reveals that I did not receive my own "check" copy, so I guess that someone goofed in the mailing department. We will extend everyone's subscription by one issue to make up for the missed day! I missed an important anniversay last week. Harold "dead meat" Kroll celebrated the first anniversary of his first MPC purchase! While a year may not be a long time in the big picture, it has been a very big year for Harold and an important one in the history of MPC collecting. It is interesting that they coincide so closely. Of course lots to discuss most of which will continue to be delayed. There is lots of "chat" going on about the BEP replacement of the AMC 1 yen note currently on ebay. I will try to discuss it tomorrow. It was also discussed at some length a few nights ago on chat. Heck, Tom, you could write us a great article on this note by simply summarizing the chat and adding a few insights and even questions! (aside to Tom K, received your good letter and will use the information and comment on it soon--stay tuned). Doug Bell reports finding a third printing Series 521 50c. I think that this is only the second one seen and is a great find for Doug. He reports the additional inferesting information. He nearly missed it because the number is very close to the dividing line and the numbers on the cheat sheet were not clear enough. He had to consult the complete figures to be sure. (He got the numbers from the June BNR, but could also find them at Phil G's web site.) The other reported 521 50c changed hands last week too. I guess that makes it 521 week! The missing link is the 472 50c second printing. It will be major news when one of those is found! Heck, it might be in your collection right now! If you have one of these with a SN greater than 4,032,000, you have a great find, and we want to hear about it! As reported below, there is a change in the plans for the ANA convention. ====================================================== Calendar In this section we will highlight MPC chat, MPC Fest, and MPC gram events. Other events will be mentioned as they get close. For planning purposes see the papermoneyworld.com calendar of events. The next major show is the American Numismatic Association Convention (August 9-13). This year the convention will be in Philadelphia. 25 years ago the ANA convention was one of the major events for paper money. Now with the development of so many successful paper money shows (and of course the MPC Fest), its importance has diminished, but it is still an important show. Because it is such a big and important show, you cannot help but find some good paper there. Marv Mericle's great MPC collection will NOT be on display as promissed because of family and administration problems. We are certainly sorry to hear about that, but hope that all goes well with Marv and that we will see the exhibit again soon. I will be there the entire time and will be pleased to chat MPC with you! Chat tonight 10pm eastern. ==================================================== --------------------------------- please respond to this address or to fred@papermoneyworld.com --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!?
