News and Views

After Marcus Turner knocked me over with his great replacement, David Seelye followed suite with another great note. It was a Series 641 2 cent with serial number J11111111J! Wow, it takes your breath away. I think that he planned to ambush me too, but he was much more subtle than Marcus.

He simply laid that little beauty in his case and waited for me to see it and it did not take long. I think that many of you knew about this ahead of time too so you were all in on the deal.

Well, I got back at him a little bit. He was not at the table when I saw it so I had the chance to compose my reaction. When he came back to the table, I walked up and pretended to notice the note for the first time. I said something nice then said "Ah, glad that you got the one that was missing from the set. I was happy to get the others, but wondered what happened to the quarter." Well, his jaw drop challenged my new record, but I could not hold the joke and told him that I was pulling his leg.

This is a great note. Not many really fancy numbers are known for MPC and this is proably the best one. The other candidate is a ladder illustrated in the MPC book.

I have lots more comments to make on this solid, but I want some participation froprobablyuys on this. How many ladders were printed and [probably] issued for MPC [exclude 691/701 for the moment]. I look forward to your answers and will publish some of them tomorrow or the next day.
