======================================================= MPC Gram ====================================================== Vol 1 Number 47 June 16, 2000 News and Views Wow, we are having a hoot here at Memphis. Where can I start? Joe Boling, Doug (WIz), Marcus Turner, Marv M., and many others are here. The 691/701 MPC are a real hit. Marcus Turner completed his basic MPC set, where do I stop? Brace yourself for this. Marcus was holding back on one of the great items from the 691/701 hoard. Yesterday he showed a Series 691 $20 REPLACEMENT! It is serial number 900! Wow, it will take your breath away! The International Bank Note Society meets Saturday morning. Guido Crapanzano from Italy will take over as president at the society tomorrow. Guido is a great friend of collectors. While he is certainly not specialized in military money, he has tremendous knowledge about many different issues and has been the source of many great discoveries as well. In a surprise move he was hornored with a presidents award by the American Numismatic Association at the breakfast meeting of the Society of Paper Money Collectors this morning. The award was actually made by gram receipent and ANA director John Wilson. Guido was touched by the award. MPC collectors are everywhere and having a ball. The Smythe auction with MPC is tonight. This is the one with the Series 471 $10 error as described by Smythe. I told you that I did not think that it is an error. Profski and I studied this note for a long time and the Smythe people were very gracious in allowing us to examine it. The note has clearly been washed and pressed which certainly undermines it. On the other hand I could not find the clear evidence that I expected to dispute it as an error. Nonetheless, I conclude that this is not an error. I will be at the auction tonight and will try to report tomorrow on the results. We will try to make it to chat tonight, but I cannot be sure that we will make it by 10pm eastern. It might be more like 11pm eastern, but we will try. It will be a little easier now that I have figured out how to get on line from the hotel. ======================================================= Letters We need your letters for publication in this section.
