Hello MPC fans,
This is being sent from the road. I am in Dallas visiting the widow of Alex Kessleman. I expect to obtain the rest of his collection for sale. This will be the third time that I have had some of the material. This should just about finish it.
Alex was a great collector. His name is still known and respected in the hobby. Most of you will identify with him even though most of you started collecting after he died! Alex was the purchaser of the first Series 651 set sold by Ted Uhl. It was guaranteed by Uhl to be unique. It was sold by mail bid sale. You can find a full page advertisement announcing the sale in the Bank Note Reporter. I am sorry that I cannot even estmate the year.
Anyway, the sale price was something like $16,500. Alex got a partial refund from the widow when Ted died, but still Alex had a high price in his set. Indeed, that set is still among his things. I do not know what Rona will want to do with that set. If she lets it go at today's prices, I may keep it in my collection as an historic set, or I might sell it with the pedigree information. Either way, I think that this information should stay with the set as part of the lore of MPC collecting.
I will certainly let you know how things go. I expect to have some of the notes in Memphis and will of course be selling them via direct sale and ebay too.
Have a great day.
Fred
