Yo MPC fans, Received the Lyn Kinght and Smythe auction catalogs for Memphis. No MPC in the Knight sale, but it is a spectacular catalog from the technology point of view (full color throughout). Although there is no MPC, there are some important notes for us! Most importantly there is an uncirculated Series 1934 $10 North Africa note. The Smythe sale has a Series 651 set which is not so interesting anymore, but it does have one interesting note. They have a Series 471 $10 with missing ink that they catalog as an error. They stat that there is no evidence of tampering, but the missing ink is on the back and to a lesser extent on the face, so I am in doubt. Noramlly, this means that the note is the result of a chemistry experimnet. I have called Marty Gengerke at Smythe to discuss the note. When I hear back from him, I will certainly let everyone know what he says. Furthermore, of course we will examine it at Memphis. Tom K sent the following letter regarding MPC chat. What do you think? The silence on the chat is deafening at times. Some thoughts: 1. Set a certain night aside every week for exclusive discussion on amc, jim, other wwII currency (everything but mpc) 2. Since the participants vary from east to west coast: what if we set the standard time at 10:00 est but set aside 11:00 for west coasters; that might keep the activity from waning. Of course, we have to get some west coasters to participate. 3. Is the primary purpose of the chat to inform and educate or just be a place for advanced collectors/dealers to send private messages, set up phone calls and otherwise transact mpc buy/sell/trade? I haven't reconcile the two in my mind yet would prefer it to be a place for learning from the "experts." For instance; maybe give some ideas of the current areas of reserach being conducted by certain participants. Then by reviewing "remembered" and notes held in collections a participant can make some worthwhile contributions. Maybe everyone could contribute their own most wanted question: One of mine is: "If I have a specimen piece; how can I figure out where it was issued?" Probably impossible but food for thought. Keep in mind that I am not the typical well heeled dealer/collector so I need a bit more to keep me interested. No offense intended by any of this but just wanted to share some random thoughts. with respect, Tom Well, what DO you think? Tom certainly has some good points. I expect to try to have some more "special events." You may recall we tried to have a special interview of Joe Boling, but the technology got in the way. I expect that we will try that special event again soon. Probably after Memphis. Speaking of Memphis, we will try to have special Memphis grams and possibly Memphis chat from Memphis where chatters who are there can chat with those who are not. Ah, there is an idea! We are always up late a Memphis and the West coasters are underrepresented at Memphis just as on chat so we can combine that. Perhaps during Memphis, we can start chat at 2400 eastern. What do you think about that? West coasters, will you make a special effort to participate? Well, I will be back in PC on Monday night, but possibly not in time for chat, but still things will be sort of normal again starting on Tue, but of course normal is not very normal for me.
